Kolo Toure believes Erling Haaland gives something that Sergio Aguero never really could for Manchester City. The Norwegian superstar has made a fine start to the new season, having broke all kinds of records last term.
Haaland has won a plethora of individual awards, and is hoping to add the Ballon d’Or to his collection at the end of next month.
It is so refreshing for City fans to have a deadly striker once again.
City have had one before in Sergio Aguero, who left the Etihad having scored the most goals in the club’s history.
Haaland and Aguero will undoubtedly be compared a lot going forwards.
But Toure believes the Norwegian has one attribute that Aguero simply never did…
Kolo Toure shares one Haaland trait Aguero did not have
Toure has been speaking about Pep Guardiola to the club’s official website.
But at one point, he mentions Haaland and how he has brought another dimension to the team.
The Ivorian suggests that Haaland’s chest control with his back to goal is a s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 Aguero never really had.
He said (mancity.com): “Haaland has brought another dimension to the team.
“City always had Sergio Aguero and other good tactically aware strikers. But Haaland can bring that long ball on his chest to bring the rest of the team into the game.
“If you look at the key games, Haaland was using his chest making the runs for the counter-attack.
“It was such a great tactic because everyone knows City and that’s why Pep’s a genius.”
Aguero was amazing, but hold-up play was not his game
Aguero was pretty much a complete striker, but hold-up play was one thing fans never really associated him with.
Given his stature, that was never really his game.
He could deal with balls into feet and pop the ball off to teammates.
But sending high balls to him was never really the tactic.
With Haaland, that is obviously something this crop of City players can do.
