Singer Rihanna was boycotted by many people when she invited Johnny Depp to join her lingerie show, after the actor’s lawsuit scandal with his ex-wife.
According to the Los Angeles Times , Depp will appear in the “crucial moment” of the fourth season of the Savage X Fenty fashion show – scheduled to stream 9/11. On social networks, many people objected to Rihanna’s invitation to Johnny Depp because of the actor’s previous allegations of violence against women. “Johnny Depp” and “Savage X Fenty” became trending keywords on Twitter as many people continuously posted to express their anger.
Some viewers thought that the producer invited Johnny Depp to the show just to increase the shock factor. “Put Johnny Depp on your show doesn’t add any value. There may be a few viral moments on social media, but that’s all…” – Bella Goth’s opinion was approved by more than 1,500 people . Many viewers think that collaborating with Johnny Depp is quite reckless, because even though he won the lawsuit , he was still boycotted by a part of the public.
Many characters in the showbiz world said they were disappointed with Rihanna, especially when she was a victim of violence . Music producer Drew Dixon wrote: “Johnny Depp was celebrated as a hero by extremists, and now he’s invited to the show Savage X Fenty. Never thought such a powerful woman would be hidden. in front of the anti-Me Too movement. Disappointed in Rihanna”. Olly Alexander – the lead vocalist in the group Years & Years – said she would no longer wear Rihanna’s underwear after hearing the news. Many people boycott the brand with keywords like #AbuserxFenty, #DitchDepp.
According to Time , currently Rihanna, Johnny Depp and Amazon – the program’s broadcast unit – have not responded.
Thanks to the Savage X Fenty brand, Rihanna is currently the richest female singer in the music industry. In July, she had a net worth of $1.4 billion, making her the youngest self-made female billionaire in the US, according to Forbes. Her fortune mainly comes from her singing career and business in fashion and beauty products. The original Barbados singer owns three companies Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin and Savage X Fenty, with a 30% stake in Savage X Fenty. She is also among the highest-grossing singers in the world, with over 250 million records sold.
Johnny Depp made a splash of the year because of his lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard , which stemmed from her Washington Post article in 2018, two years after their divorce. In it, Heard called to oppose 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual violence, seeing himself as a victim of domestic violence. Although she did not directly mention Johnny Depp’s name , the actor was boycotted by Hollywood and lost many projects. He sued his ex-wife for $50 million for defamation. Heard countersued, seeking compensation of $ 100 million for the same crime.
In early June, the court ordered Amber Heard to pay a fine of $ 10.35 million for charges related to defamation. Heard received two million dollars in compensation from Depp, because of a point the actor’s lawyer raised in articles in the Daily Mail. The two sides are currently continuing to argue in court regarding the appeals. On November 2, he filed an appeal, asking for a $2 million penalty to be paid to his ex-wife for defamation, claiming that he was not responsible for the lawyer’s statements.
