Chelsea are ramping up their pursuit of Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams and are ready to activate the midfielder’s release clause.
The Blues are keen to add more midfield reinforcements ahead of the new season and are now willing to complete a deal by meeting the £20million relegation release clause included in his contract.
Adams only joined Leeds from RB Leipzig last summer and isn’t keen on spending the season playing in the Championship following the club’s relegation to English football’s second-tier.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s side are prepared to formalise a deal for the 24-year-old American international and could look to bring him in before their opening Premier League clash against Liverpool.
Aston Villa and other top-flight sides hold interest, but Adams is understood to favour a move to Stamford Bridge as the club’s rebuild continues.

He made 24 Premier League appearances for Leeds last season but failed to register a goal or assist as the side slumped to relegation.
Meanwhile, Chelsea completed the £25m signing of Robert Sanchez from Brighton on Saturday as the goalkeeper put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal.
As has been policy under co-owner Todd Boehly, Sanchez agreed a seven-year contract that will guarantee his future at the club.
The Blues were in need of a new goalkeeper to provide Kepa Arrizabalaga with competition following Edouard Mendy’s exit for Saudi Arabia.
Chelsea could return to Brighton for another purchase during the transfer window after refusing to give up in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo.
The Blues have already had bids rejected for the defensive midfielder but are keen to try and seal a deal before the transfer window closes.
They are considering returning for another approach, however Pochettino has also identified PSG’s Leandro Paredes as an alternative if a deal can’t be completed.
A flurry of late business could also see Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic join Chelsea as negotiations continue with the Serie A giants over a permanent transfer.

Vlahovic is recognised as the club’s star striker but could be let go if a deal to send wantaway Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku the other way can be completed.
The Blues have also instigated talks for Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise, who is also on Manchester City’s list despite his current hamstring injury.
However, Chelsea could be hampered in their recruitment pursuit of Santos striker Devid Washington with Monaco threatening to hijack their £17m bid.
The Premier League side see the young forward as a player for the future and want to loan him to Strasbourg.
