Striker Marcus Rashford revealed that he was only 45 seconds late to the MU meeting, but was also punished by coach Erik ten Hag.
At the end of December last year, Rashford was benched by Ten Hag against Wolves in the Premier League for the reason of “internal discipline”. The English striker was launched into the field by Ten Hag in the second half, and it was he who scored the only goal to help MU win 1-0.
Recounting this incident, Rashford told BLV Gary Neville on The Overlap program: “I wasn’t even too late. I was about 45 seconds late, but late is late. Ten Hag is a strict coach. I knew what was going to happen because of the rules he had laid down before the season. Rules are rules.”
In addition, Rashford also praised the Dutch teacher for helping MU once again have a winning mentality. “We have a coach who is completely dedicated to winning at all costs, and Ten Hag wants us to be the best we can as individuals and as a team,” he said.
Ultimately, he wants us to win titles. There were a few matches where Ten Hag got angry in the middle of the half because we weren’t playing well. He told us to listen and relax. He knew we weren’t playing well, but there was still time so he wanted the whole team to fight to win.
When Ten Hag arrived, I never heard him talk about being in the Top 4 once. He just wanted to win titles and he always had that mentality. It doesn’t matter what league we’re in, Ten Hag wants to try and win everything. We always bounce back from disappointing results. There is nothing worse than when you concede 4, 5, 6 goals in a game, you have to find the positives. And in the games that followed, we always had good results.”
Last season, Rashford was MU’s number one goalscorer with 30 goals in all competitions. This is also the best achievement of his career so far. The 25-year-old striker won the League Cup with the Red Devils, finishing in the Top 4 as well as reaching the final of the FA Cup.
