Fans of the long-running cult series were stunned as Warner Bros. Television and The CW unveiled the teaser trailer for Supernatural – Season 16, marking a surprise revival of the beloved show three years after its emotional series finale.
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles return as Sam and Dean Winchester, picking up the story in a post-apocalyptic landscape where the balance between heaven, hell, and Earth has collapsed. The teaser reveals a darker tone, shadowy visuals, and a mysterious voice saying: “The gates are open… but who let them out?”
Though Season 15 brought what was believed to be a definitive end to the Winchesters’ journey, showrunner Andrew Dabb returns alongside Eric Kripke as executive producer to craft what is being called a “spiritual continuation” of the saga.
The trailer teases:
-
Dean awakening in a liminal realm known only as The Hollow
-
Sam hunting a new threat that bends time and memory
-
The return of fan-favorite characters like Castiel (Misha Collins) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard)
-
A new antagonist known as The Pale Prophet, whose origin may be tied to the Winchesters’ own bloodline
Season 16 is expected to feature 10 episodes, blending the show’s original monster-of-the-week formula with an overarching mythology involving a collapsed multiverse and forgotten gods.
Supernatural: Season 16 premieres October 31, 2025 exclusively on The CW and HBO Max, with the first two episodes dropping on Halloween night.
