Ubisoft and Legendary Pictures have officially unveiled the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed (2025), a full-scale cinematic reboot of the popular video game franchise—and this time, it’s headlined by none other than Tom Cruise, in a role unlike any he’s played before.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, Tron: Legacy), the film promises a sleek, high-concept action thriller that combines cutting-edge technology, deep lore, and the franchise’s signature leap-of-faith set pieces.
Cruise plays Daniel Cross, a rogue descendant of a legendary assassin bloodline who is captured by the shadowy Abstergo Industries and forced to relive the memories of his ancestor—a master assassin in 15th-century Spain during the Inquisition.
The trailer showcases stunning period-set action, intense parkour across ancient rooftops, and Cruise performing many of his own stunts, including a gravity-defying swan dive from a cathedral into a narrow hay cart below. His voiceover delivers the chilling line: “To understand the future, I must relive the past… and survive it.”
Other key cast members include:
-
Rebecca Ferguson as a Templar scientist with a hidden agenda
-
Oscar Isaac as the mentor assassin guiding Daniel through the Animus
-
Diego Luna as the ruthless Inquisitor hunting assassins across Spain
The trailer closes with the iconic Hidden Blade snapping out of Cruise’s wrist, as he stares down a courtyard of enemies. The signature Assassin’s Creed theme plays in a dark, orchestral remix.
Fans have taken to social media, praising the visuals, Cruise’s intensity, and the series’ long-awaited return to the big screen. Hashtags like #AssassinsCreed2025, #TomCruiseAnimus, and #NothingIsTrueEverythingIsPermitted are trending worldwide.
Assassin’s Creed is set to hit theaters on December 12, 2025, with IMAX and 4DX formats confirmed.
Live by the Creed. Fight through the past. Rewrite the future. 🗝️🕶️⏳
