10 Eight Is Enough actors, who have passed away

In a heartbreaking revelation, fans of the beloved series “Eight is Enough” are mourning the loss of ten actors who brought warmth and humor to the screen, yet faced untold struggles in their personal lives. From the show’s premiere in 1977 to its conclusion in 1981, the cast resonated deeply with audiences, but the tragedies behind their on-screen personas tell a different story.

Dick Van Patten, who portrayed the patriarch Tom Bradford, passed away in 2015 at 86, battling complications from diabetes and the weight of personal tragedies, including the loss of his brother to suicide. Adam Rich, the charming Nicholas Bradford, succumbed to a fentanyl overdose in January 2023, a victim of the dark side of 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 stardom that left him grappling with addiction and isolation.

James Karen, known for his role as Elliot Randolph, died in 2018 at 94, having faced profound loneliness and survivor’s guilt after losing close friends to suicide. Nicholas Prior, who played Jeffrey Trout, struggled with anxiety and health issues, passing away in October 2024. Janice Paige, Auntie V, found herself isolated in her later years, dying in June 2024 at 101.

Larry Gilman, who brought Officer Bernstein to life, faced estrangement from his son before dying in a nursing home in 2021. Don Mat, Dennis Patrick, and Jack Elam also faced personal demons, with Mat battling cancer until his death in 2014 and Patrick passing away in 2002 after years of emotional turmoil. Lonnie Grady tragically succumbed to drug intoxication at just 46 years old in 2001, and Michael Tom died of cancer in 1982 at 55, nearly forgotten by the industry.
