Roberto Firmino in talks for emotional Liverpool return after Saudi Arabia exit: Contract details revealed

Former Liverpool fan favorite Roberto Firmino is reportedly set for a sensational return to Anfield after reaching an agreement to leave Saudi club Al-Ahli. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Firmino has already opened discussions with Liverpool over a short-term deal that could see him back in red before the 2025/26 season kicks off.

Firmino, 33, left Liverpool in the summer of 2023 after eight unforgettable years at the club, joining a wave of European stars who moved to the Saudi Pro League, including Neymar, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kanté. At Al-Ahli, Firmino proved his class once again, scoring 21 goals in 65 appearances and playing a pivotal role in their AFC Champions League triumph — including assisting both goals in the final.

Despite signing a three-year contract, Al-Ahli president Khaled Al-Ghamdi confirmed that the club has agreed to an early termination of Firmino’s deal. “We part ways with deep respect and gratitude for everything Roberto has brought to our club,” he said in a statement.

Speaking about his potential return to Liverpool, Firmino admitted: “Liverpool has always been my home. I never stopped loving the fans, the club, and the city. When the opportunity came up to talk about a return, I knew it was something I had to consider seriously. My heart never left Anfield.”

Fabrizio Romano added fuel to the fire with his latest report: “Talks are progressing well. Liverpool are exploring a one-year deal with an option for another year. The emotional connection between Firmino and the club could be decisive in making this comeback a reality.”

Firmino’s potential return comes at a time when Liverpool are transitioning into a new era under manager Arne Slot. The Brazilian striker — who was instrumental in Liverpool’s Champions League win in 2019 and Premier League title in 2020 — could offer both experience and depth to a revamped attacking line.

During his first spell at Liverpool, Firmino scored 111 goals in 362 appearances, forming a legendary trio with Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah. With Mané also in Saudi Arabia and Salah recently renewing his contract, Firmino’s comeback could be the emotional reunion fans didn’t expect — but would undoubtedly cherish.
