In a surprising revelation from his new memoir, “Fahrenheit 182,” Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus has opened up about a date he had with actress Melissa Joan Hart that he described as “awful.” The encounter took place over 25 years ago, during the peak of Hart’s fame from her hit television show, “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” Hoppus provided details about the date to Entertainment Weekly, sharing the awkward moments they experienced while dining at a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles.
According to Hoppus, the conversation quickly turned sour when he inquired about Hart’s culinary preferences. Her response, revealing that she typically ate whatever catering provided on set, set the tone for the evening. Hoppus also asked her about her reading habits, only to find out that she was mostly reading scripts for work. “We’re doomed,” he recalled thinking, realizing they had little in common. The musician admitted he made up an excuse to cut the date short, further acknowledging that their connection simply wasn’t there.
Despite the lackluster date, Hoppus noted that he found love later that night, connecting with his now-wife, Skye. The couple is set to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in December, with Skye embracing the rock lifestyle that accompanies Hoppus’s career. Meanwhile, Hart went on to marry musician Mark Wilkerson in 2003, with the couple welcoming three sons together.
Both Hoppus and Hart have since moved on to fulfilling relationships, highlighting how sometimes, initial encounters don’t always lead to lasting connections. Each found their “happily ever after,” proving that what might seem like a setback can lead to unexpected happiness.
