@tenouttatendo FOREMAN vs LYLE: Big George’s Greatest Fight! . Rest In Peace to Big George Foreman 🕊️ One of the greatest heavyweights of all time, the oldest man to reclaim a heavyweight title and undoubtedly one of the greatest career stories in SPORTS HISTORY. In order to mark the Big man’s legacy as part of a mini-series celebrating his illustrious legacy, here’s a classic episode of the ‘Tales Of The Tape’ series detailing the GREATEST fight of Foreman’s career… . GEORGE FOREMAN VS RON LYLE – Tales Of The Tape Episode 64 . In 1976, George Foreman and Ron Lyle faced off in Las Vegas… and what resulted from this clash was one of the greatest slugfests in boxing history. At this point in heavyweight history, George Foreman was at an all-time low following his iconic loss to Muhammad Ali in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), in which he lost his undefeated record and the heavyweight championship of the world. Prior to that loss in 1974, Foreman had a record of 40-0 with most of his fights ending within the distance and with a complete decimation of Joe Frazier on his resumé. In other words, Foreman was effectively invincible in the eyes of many pre-Zaire, hence why his loss shook the heavyweight titan to his core and severely affected Foreman’s confidence in the following years. *CONTINUED IN COMMENTS* He even staged an exhibition night in 1975 where he fought 5 journeymen in one night in an effort to rediscover his 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er instinct and to rediscover public interest in Foreman’s momentous knockout power. This backfired horrendously as there was widespread criticism of the level of opposition, Muhammad Ali was in attendance at ringside and the crowd quickly began to turn on Foreman due to the mismatches in the ring – causing them to chant in favour of Ali, who used this to taunt Foreman even further. Not to mention that the last two opponents (of the scheduled five) managed to survive the distance – thanks to Foreman’s questionable stamina. As a result, this publicity stunt left observers even more uncertain regarding Foreman’s career following Zaire. Ron Lyle, on the other hand, was ranked fifth in the heavyweight division by The Ring magazine and had also lost to Muhammad Ali by 11th round TKO in 1975. He had defeated the historically powerful Earnie Shavers (said to be the hardest puncher in the history of heavyweight boxing) by 6th round TKO and was looking to stake a claim at another title shot by defeating a top ranked contender and former champion in George Foreman. The actual fight ended up being one of the greatest fights in the history of the sport and arguably the greatest heavyweight contest in history as Foreman and Lyle brutally battled each other for five fearsome rounds in which both fighters were sent to the canvas multiple times and both fighters were moments away from defeat – each having to muster every iota of might that they possessed to continue onwards into what seemed like never-ending hell. In the end, Foreman landed a flurry in the fifth that dropped Lyle to the canvas once again – but this time, Lyle physically couldn’t rise to his feet and Foreman was crowned the winner… George Foreman would go on to continue on his quest to rediscover his prior invincibility by rematching former champion Joe Frazier… but that’s a tale for another time… . . . #georgeforeman #ronlyle #foremanlyle #muhammadali #heavyweight #heavyweightboxing #heavyweightchampion #worldchampion #analysis #classic #legend #caesarspalace #lasvegas #boxinggym #combatsports #explore #fyp #viral #boxinglife #boxing #boxeo #boxer #KO #knockout #highlights #fight #fights #fighter #boxers #training #boxingtraining #boxingknockouts #analysis #boxinghype #ripgeorgeforeman #restinpeace
