Steven Spielberg hasn’t missed a beat during the holiday season, at least according to Ke Huy Quan!
The Love Hurts star, 53, shared during a recent appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM channel Radio Andy that Spielberg — who directed him in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and who co-wrote 1985’s The Goonies — has been consistently sending him holiday gifts for the “last 40 years.”
“Every single year, when the holiday season rolls around, I would always get that call from his assistant,” Quan said. “[They’d say], ‘What is the best mailing address?'”

When Cohen asked if Spielberg, 78, would send him a “card or a gift,” Quan confirmed he’d get a “gift” in the mail each year from the legendary filmmaker, who he worked with at just 13 years old.
After joking that he’d like to also be on Tom Cruise’s famous coconut cake “list,” Quan detailed the type of gifts that Spielberg would send over the years, and it sounds like they would appeal to his Goonies character Data.
“It’s quite amazing because sometimes I would say, “Aw, [there’s] this new gadget that just came out.’ And I would really, I’d want to buy it. Sure enough, it’s really crazy to think about it, then that present, that gift would come,” Quan said. “And it would be exactly what I want. It’s happened multiple times.”
The actor previously revealed Spielberg’s consistency when it comes to giving gifts in a November 2022 interview with The Guardian. “He gave me my first job and, so many years later, he has not forgotten me,” he said. “Every time I needed help, he’s always there.”

Of course, Quan’s connection to the Indiana Jones director dates back to when he tapped the then-𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 actor to take on what became his breakout role as Short Round in The Temple of Doom. Quan went on to play the lovable Data in 1985’s The Goonies, which Spielberg co-wrote with Chris Columbus.
Spielberg and Quan reconnected in January 2023 at the American Film Institute luncheon when they shared a hug and Quan gave the legendary director a friendly kiss on the cheek.
Quan also gave Spielberg a shoutout during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes that year, when he earned the best supporting actor trophy for his work in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
“I was raised to never forget where I came from, to always remember who gave me my first opportunity,” Quan said. “I am so happy to see Steven Spielberg here tonight. Steven, thank you. When I started my career as a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 actor in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, I felt so very lucky to have been chosen. As I grew older, I started to wonder if that was it, if that was just luck.”

Quan, whose latest film Love Hurts hits theaters on Valentine’s Day, also had a heartfelt reunion with his fellow Goonies cast mates this month during his hand and footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. For the event, he got to hang out with screenwriter Columbus and costars Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green and Josh Brolin.
“You’re truly one of the last existences of the American dream. Ke Huy Quan … I won’t say much but that after The Goonies, I too lived in the ethers of our business for 19 years. The only difference is I was still chipping away at leftovers and trading stocks full time while you pursued a whole other profession and excelled in it famously,” Brolin told his friend during the event.
“You have that Midas touch, my friend, and you have it because you have that heart of gold that you always have.”
