Oliver Hudson Clarifies ‘Trauma’ Comment About Childhood Was Not About Mom Goldie Hawn or the ‘Way She Raised Me’

Oliver Hudson is clearing the air on previous remarks he made about his đ˜€đ˜©đ˜Șđ˜đ˜„hood.

At the top of Monday’s episode of his and sister Kate Hudson’s Sibling Revelry podcast, Kate, 44, revealed that Oliver, 47, “got in a little bit of heat” from their mom, Goldie Hawn, after he said in a recent podcast that he felt trauma throughout his đ˜€đ˜©đ˜Șđ˜đ˜„hood.

Oliver said on Monday he was “afraid” to speak on the topic “even more” because “everything is taken so far out of context.”

“If you listen to the whole thing, it’s more about sort of myÂ đ˜€đ˜©đ˜Șđ˜đ˜„Â feelings in that moment rather than me and how I feel about Mom as a parent,” he told Kate before saluting the Overboard star.

“I don’t know who I would be without my mother,” said Oliver. “I can’t even fathom it. The love that I have for her and the respect and the reverence that I have for her is beyond anything. So it was just, you know, completely taken out of context.”

He added that he has faced the “repercussions,” and the moment is now “over.”

Oliver told listeners not to “pay attention to that bulls—,” before noting that “trauma” is often a buzzword.

“You say that word and immediately it inflames everything. There was no trauma coming from my mother’s you know … the way she raised me in any way whatsoever,” said Oliver. “You know, you’re speaking from a 5, 6-year-old person. That’s what I was doing. Without her, again, I’d be nothing.”

He concluded, “You never want to make anyone feel bad, and you know I’m in retrospect…I’m just gonna shut the f— up from now on. I’m not. I’m not really, I can’t help it.”

In a recent episode of Sibling Revelry, Oliver shared that his perspective on his đ˜€đ˜©đ˜Șđ˜đ˜„hood changed after he attended a week-long course at the non-profit Hoffman Institute, which he described as “unpacking the patterns that have been put upon you from your parents and then stepparents as well.”

Hawn shares Oliver and Kate with her ex-husband Bill Hudson, but she primarily raised the two kids with her longtime partner Kurt Russell, 73, whom she has been with since 1983.

“I went in there thinking it was all going to be about my dad and then [Kurt Russell], my stepdad who raised me, but whatever that connection was, and then my dad who wasn’t there,” Oliver said. “My mom was going to be easy-breezy because she was always the constant in my life. It was totally flipped on its head: my mother was the one that came up the most, my mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about, interestingly enough.”

Throughout the podcast episode, Oliver said he had more to unpack regarding his relationship with his mother because of how present she was in his life, as opposed to his estranged father, to whom Goldie was married from 1976 to 1982.

“So I felt unprotected at times; she would be working and away or she had new boyfriends that I didn’t really like. She would be living her life, and she was an amazing mother,” he said. “This was my own perception as a đ˜€đ˜©đ˜Șđ˜đ˜„ who didn’t have a dad and who needed her to be there, and she just wasn’t sometimes.”

Oliver shared that Hawn “came up far more than my dad” during the course and noted that while his father Bill was not often present in his life, “when I was with him, it was incredible.”

“He paid attention to me, we played football, we played basketball, we were on the beach, he taught me how to fish,” he recalled of when he did spend time with Bill, a musician and actor. “He was so present, but he was never there, you know what I mean? So it was really a
