With the Japanese Grand Prix fast approaching, former four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has sent a defiant message to Max Verstappen, who is looking to equal Vettel’s record of four wins at Suzuka.
Speaking about the possibility of Verstappen matching his achievement in Japan, Vettel stated: “Records are meant to be challenged, but it won’t come easy. Suzuka is a track that demands perfection, and with the competition this season, nothing is guaranteed.”
Verstappen arrives in Japan under pressure after a challenging start to the 2025 F1 season, where McLaren have emerged as the dominant force, winning in both Australia (Lando Norris) and China (Oscar Piastri). With Norris currently leading the drivers’ standings, Red Bull are struggling to keep pace in a season where their dominance is being seriously tested.
Adding to the tension, Yuki Tsunoda, Verstappen’s new teammate, has spoken about Red Bull’s struggles and his own mindset ahead of his first Japanese GP as a full-time Red Bull driver.
“Suzuka is always special, but I don’t want to just be here for the occasion. We need results, and I’m ready to fight,” Tsunoda declared.
With Red Bull under pressure and McLaren threatening to take control of the season, all eyes will be on Verstappen as he attempts to bounce back at Suzuka. But with Vettel’s warning and Tsunoda’s determination, the road to victory won’t be easy.
