Red Bull’s latest decision to demote Liam Lawson has reportedly caused new tensions between the team and Max Verstappen, with the Dutch driver once again hinting that he may walk away from the team if things continue down this path.
Frustration Over Red Bull’s Ruthless Move
Verstappen is said to be displeased with how Red Bull has handled the situation, particularly after Lawson’s demotion just two races into the 2025 season. Red Bull has opted to swap Yuki Tsunoda into the senior team ahead of his home race in Japan, leaving Lawson to return to Racing Bulls alongside Isack Hadjar.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Verstappen strongly disagrees with the decision:
“I don’t understand why they’re making such big changes so soon. Liam wasn’t given a real chance. This kind of instability isn’t how you build a winning team.”
The three-time world champion reportedly voiced his frustrations directly to Red Bull’s top management but was ignored.
Could Verstappen Walk Away?
Verstappen’s dissatisfaction with Red Bull isn’t new. He has previously hinted at exploring options outside the team, and insiders suggest this latest controversy has only increased the likelihood of a shock exit.
Speaking to Dutch media, Verstappen dropped another bombshell:
“I have always said I want to be in a team where I feel comfortable and supported. If that changes, then I will have to consider my future.”
With Red Bull currently struggling to match McLaren and Mercedes, Verstappen’s patience appears to be wearing thin. The team sits third in the Constructors’ Championship, already 42 points behind McLaren, and with internal tensions growing, Verstappen’s long-term commitment to Red Bull is looking more uncertain than ever.
Could this be the beginning of a dramatic breakup between Verstappen and Red Bull? The F1 world will be watching closely.
