Initially titled “In Other Words,” “Fly Me to the Moon” is a song first recorded by Kaye Ballard. It was inducted by the Songwriters Hall of Fame as a Towering Song in 1999.

Bart Howard, the songwriter, wrote “Fly Me to the Moon” in 1954. When he was writing the piece, he had been pursuing his musical career for over 20 years. He wrote the ballad entitled “In Other Words” and refused to change some lyrics as suggested by a publisher. Later, he mentioned how it took him 20 years to create a musical piece in just 20 minutes.

Since the song’s release in 1954, numerous talented musicians have released their cover versions. Among the famous ones are George Strait and Frank Sinatra’s duet of “Fly Me to the Moon.”

Strait and Sinatra’s Version

George Strait and Frank Sinatra have soulfully serenaded millions of people with their vocals in “Fly Me to the Moon.” You might think both artists recorded the track together, but in reality, they recorded it separately: Frank’s voice was laid over the voices of other artists in the album, including the duet, making it somehow an electronically modified track.

Frank Sinatra’s 1964 version of the track was associated with NASA’s Apollo space program. His version was also certified gold by recording industries in Denmark, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Frank’s version was probably the most famous of all versions because it was played on a portable cassette on Apollo 10, orbited the moon, and on Apollo 11 before the first landing on the moon.

But George Strait and Frank Sinatra’s version has shined brighter than any other cover because of their smooth and effortless singing. It is one of George Strait and Frank Sinatra’s song that fans adore because their voices perfectly match throughout.

George started the song by saying he needed a break or a trip. The sultry yet classy voice of Frank then followed him. Both singers showcased their jazzy aura and talent as they slayed the cover of “Fly Me to the Moon.”
