Liverpool’s current head coach, Arne Slot, has revealed that his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, turned down two invitations to return to the Premier League club.
Klopp stepped down from his role at Liverpool at the end of last season after nine successful years at Anfield. Arne Slot took over from the German manager and has had a strong start with the Reds. Liverpool currently lead the Premier League table and finished top of their Champions League group. They are also set to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.
Since his departure, Klopp has not returned to Merseyside. However, Slot emphasized that Klopp is always welcome to visit both Liverpool’s training ground and Anfield stadium.
In a recent press conference, Slot shared: “I invited him [Klopp] to attend the home matches against Manchester City and Real Madrid, but he said he was somewhere else in the world.”
“He can come here anytime, watch the games, or even visit this building [the Kirkby training center]. For me, he is always welcome. In the first half of the season, he was enjoying life with his wife, and now he has a new job to focus on.”
Klopp recently accepted the role of Global Football Director for the Red Bull group — a move that has sparked controversy due to Red Bull’s approach to football, which is often criticized in Germany.
The decision even drew backlash from Borussia Dortmund supporters, a club where Klopp is considered a legend.
