The NHL Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues at Wrigley Field featured a spirited fight between the teams’ captains, Nick Foligno of the Blackhawks and Brayden Schenn of the Blues.
The scrap occurred during the second period after the Blues had just scored to take a commanding 5-1 lead over their rivals.

Off the ensuing faceoff, Nick Foligno and Schenn immediately dropped their gloves and exchanged several heavy blows. Foligno landed a couple of solid rights to Schenn’s head, while Schenn responded with some lefts. The referees eventually intervened to break up the fight.
The Blackhawks went on to lose 6-2 against the Blues.
Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi scored for Chicago, while goaltender Petr Mrazek allowed six goals on 28 shots in the loss.
Cam Fowler (two goals), Justin Faulk, Dylan Holloway, Alexandre Texier and Jordan Kyrou scored for the Blues. Goaltender Jordan Binnington made 28 saves for St. Louis.
Brayden Schenn admitted starting fight with Nick Foligno at Winter Classic
Brayden Schenn revealed postgame that it was his decision to engage in the fight with Nick Foligno, stating he wanted to create a memorable
“I would have come back to the bench if (Foligno) said no,” Schenn explained (as per The Athletic).”“You look back on these moments in your career and why not, eh?” Schenn added. “You’re squaring off at Wrigley Field at center ice against a tough customer. You never know if you’re going to play in another Winter Classic, so get in a fight while you’re at it. You want the memory.”
Schenn’s eagerness to participate in the on-ice scuffle was fueled by the unique setting of the Winter Classic.
“This was an amazing experience for the fans and just for us, too,” Schenn said. “Having family and friends here to experience something like that at Wrigley Field, an amazing thing, and then winning on top of it.”
