While the Boston Bruins played out their centennial game against the Montreal Canadiens at TD Garden, their NBA counterparts, the Celtics, were on the road at the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bruins were paid a tribute by Celtics shooting guard Derrick White on the sidelines.

White missed the game against the Cavs and was rested, as he suffered an injury in the second half of the Celtics’ 138-129 win against the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Cup. It is still unclear about the nature of the injury but it was enough for White to sit out the game in Cleveland.

However, White’s attire turned out to be a special attraction. The defensive stronghold wore the iconic Bruins black and gold and honored the 100 years of the club. Specifically, he wore winger David Pastrnak’s #8 jersey.

Pastrnak has been with the Bruins ever since he made his way to the NHL. In 700 games for the club, the Czech has 750 points. He signed an eight-year contract extension ahead of the 2022-23 season worth $90 million.

Boston Bruins celebrate centennial game with club legends

Before their game against the Canadiens, the Bruins held a special tribute honoring the club’s past legends. Current captain Brad Marchand was joined by 11 former Bruins stars alongside four family members of the club’s formative years. Each of them came to the center circle holding a customized centenary stick in remembrance of the rich history of the club.

After the celebrations of the past, the first American club to join the hockey league also put some thought into the future. The 16 honoraries were joined by members of the youth affiliate teams in the organization as a mark to celebrate the second century of its existence.

Earlier on Saturday, the Bruins also unveiled the Centenary monument, a 3,500 pound replica of a bear – the symbol of the club. The Bruins would also be starting a new tradition of rubbing the bear’s feet for good luck.

All the festivities were capped off by the current team that beat Montreal 6-3. Boston dominated the first period, took a 3-0 lead and closed out the game for the win.
