After Max Verstappen’s remarkable victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lando Norris voiced his frustration, suggesting that Verstappen’s win was down to “luck” rather than s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁. Verstappen, who had started from 17th place on the grid, took advantage of a mid-race red flag, allowing him to change tires without losing his position. This rule, Norris argued, unfairly benefited the Red Bull driver.
Norris, who began the race from pole, felt the red-flag tire change rule was responsible for Verstappen’s success, commenting to Sky F1, “They [Red Bull] got lucky. A rule [changing tires during a red flag] no one agrees with… Every driver disagreed with it in the past. Today it benefited them… but we’ll keep pushing.”
In response to Norris’ remarks, Verstappen defended his win, emphasizing that he simply followed the rules in place. “Everyone races under the same regulations,” Verstappen stated. “Sometimes the circumstances go your way, and sometimes they don’t. I just took my chance as it came.”
When pressed further, Verstappen added, “If the rules help me today, that’s just part of racing. It’s not about luck; it’s about making the right moves when opportunities arise. Lando drove well, but we all knew what was at stake.”
With only three races left in the season, Verstappen has a comfortable lead in the championship standings. As he looks ahead, Verstappen’s focus remains unwavering, even amid comments from competitors. “I respect Lando’s talent, but at the end of the day, we all play by the same book,” he concluded, reminding critics that race strategy involves seizing every advantage within the rules.
