LIV Golf has seen a lot of success since its first official event in 2022. The premier golf series led by Greg Norman has attracted some of the best players in the world. Fans have also enjoyed the alternate option that offers more variety in the way professional golf is played.
The former CEO of LIV Golf, Greg Norman has always shown his appreciation towards golfers who have supported him throughout his career. He spoke about the same in an interview from April 2024. Let’s see what he had to say.
Greg Norman’s honest confession
Greg Norman has always been a very vocal man. He has never shied away from speaking his mind. During one such conversation on a podcast for Youth Inc., Norman shared how grateful he is for the kind of support he has received from everyone. Responding to the host’s question, “What’s next for you?“, Greg Norman indicated that he would like to take up the role of mentoring pro golfers. An agitated Norman said, “I see great players today on TV making fundamental mistakes and it just irks me.” Expressing how he felt during such instances, he said, “I just want to jump through that TV screen and then just (say) ‘Hey, you crazy idiot, this isn’t… I can help you! I can help you!”
Chuckling over the animated response from Norman, the host questioned him, “But imagine if somebody wanted to do that to you back when you were playing.” Norman immediately responded, “But Jack did! Jack Nicklaus did!” This may surprise many fans considering the issues Norman and Nicklaus have had in the past. Intrigued by Norman’s comment, the host said, “That was the one guy you could listen to.” Greg Norman instantly confirmed with a ‘Yes!‘.

Just to remind everyone why this was a shocking response, Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus had a short dispute back in 2022. Before the first event of LIV Golf, Norman was under the impression that Jack Nicklaus was going to be actively involved in the project. However, Nicklaus backed out of the arrangement a few weeks before the launch. That left a sour taste in Norman’s mouth. In fact, an ever-so-vocal Greg Norman had also commented on the incident during an interview. Speaking to the Washington Post, Norman said, “One hundred percent truth? Jack’s a hypocrite.”
Ever since that incident, fans assumed that the issue was never resolved. But Norman’s interview with Youth Inc. says otherwise. In the same interview, he also acknowledged some other players who helped him fight his demons.
Acknowledging those who helped
After the ‘Yes!‘, Norman also mentioned that there were other players who helped him back then. He listed the likes of Raymond Floyd and Tom Watson. Speaking of Watson, Greg Norman said that he only received one tip from the former. Watson’s words of wisdom to Norman were, “Once you bite that snake’s head off, that snake’s dead forever.” Norman realized that that’s all he needed to understand how he could deal with the negativity in life.
Norman went on to share that the important life lessons he received from others helped him cope with the pressure on the course. He shared that he flushes out all the pain and negativity from his system to regain his focus and continue moving on. He elaborated on how necessary it is for pros to find the right channel to let it all out so it does not hamper their performance.
