Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes celebrated teammate Tyler Myers’ 1,000th NHL game with a simple, heartfelt message. Myers, who reached the milestone last Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers, was honored in Vancouver as the Canucks took on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Before the game, the Canucks held a short ceremony to honor Myers’ NHL career. Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin presented Myers with a silver stick on the ice. Quinn Hughes also gave each of Myers’ three 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren a miniature silver stick. The team’s longest-standing players — Thatcher Demko, JT Miller, Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson and Hughes — joined Myers’ family and the GM for a group photo.

Quinn Hughes then shared a Canucks Instagram post marking the achievement, captioning it with a heart emoji:

In a thoughtful gesture, Myers wore an “A” on his jersey for the game, a letter usually reserved for alternate captains. JT Miller, who typically wears it, asked the trainers if he could pass it to Myers for the night. Head coach Rick Tocchet approved, noting Miller’s close bond with Myers since they joined the team in 2019. Tocchet called it a “great gesture” that showed their friendship.

“Millsy went to the trainers and the trainers asked me if it was okay and I said yeah. I thought it was a great gesture by Millsy to give it to his buddy,” Tocchet said (via Canucks Army).

Tocchet also spoke about Myers’ influence in the locker room. Known for his steady presence, Myers often takes responsibility after challenging games and seeks feedback from coaches. Tocchet called him a “voice of reason” who helps lead the team when coaches aren’t present.

“He’s in Footy’s [Adam Foote] office or my office. He’ll ask questions. He’s the voice of reason, too. He’s a guy that can run the room when we leave and the guys respect that,” Tocchet said.

Myers, standing at 6-foor-8, adds both size and s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 to the Canucks’ defense. He has scored 108 points in 367 games with the team. Playing over 20 minutes each game, he holds a steady role on the blue line.

Quinn Hughes and Canucks secure their fourth win in a row

Captain Quinn Hughes and the Vancouver Canucks secured a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Rogers Arena on Saturday. The Canucks came back from a 2-0 deficit by scoring four straight goals in the second period. Elias Pettersson, Kiefer Sherwood, J.T. Miller, and Arshdeep Bains each scored, with Bains getting his first NHL goal.

Evgeni Malkin helped the Penguins stay in the game, scoring once and assisting twice. He cut Vancouver’s lead to 4-3 in the third period.

Despite Pittsburgh’s late push and pulling their goalie, Vancouver held on for the win. Canucks goalie Kevin Lankinen made 21 saves to secure the victory. This win was Vancouver’s fourth in a row, bringing their record to 4-1-2.
