On September 11 (local time), BLACKPINK‘s Lisa attended the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (also known as The 2024 VMAs). Unfortunately, she has technically triggered a lot of divided reactions.
Lisa also performed her solo songs “New Woman” and “ROCKSTAR.” This excited many fans as she showcased her choreography s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s and phenomenal visuals.
Yet, some netizens were critical of the performance. Some suggested the songs weren’t well-known enough, while many also accused her of lip-syncing.
That’s not the only criticism. Lisa won a VMA award for “Best K-Pop” with her song “ROCKSTAR.” She made history as the first soloist to win in 2022, and now she is the first to win more than once!
BLINKs could not be more proud of her! She has accomplished so much.
Yet, netizens questioned whether this was deserved, considering the song is in English, not Korean, and while Lisa is a member of the K-Pop group BLACKPINK, she is Thai, and this was one of her solo songs.
Netizens debated on Reddit. Many feel the VMAs are throwing any Asian artist into the K-Pop category without any research.
Netizens are not necessarily mad at Lisa, but more so at the award show for putting her in a box she’s been working to break out of.
