The owner of the purple and gold team has wanted to make it very clear that she is still delighted to have The King leading her franchise
Jeanie Buss, the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, has showered praise on their star LeBron James, making it clear that, despite nearing 40 years of age, he deserves every penny of his massive contract. Last season, The King averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game in 71 games with the Lakers.
“I think he is so competitive that it really has to be something he wants to do,” remarked Buss on Petros and Money at AM 570 LA Sports. “We always support our players in the decisions they make about playing or not with their national team.”
Jeanie Buss suggests she would pay Lebron more if not for the salary cap when asked about the risk/mileage of Lebron playing in the Olympics as the Lakers biggest asset:

“It was important to LeBron, and yes, he is our highest-paid player, but he’s still a bargain to me. He is absolutely incredible,” continued the owner of the purple and gold.
“Since we are a salary-cap league, we cannot pay him more than that. He brings recognition to the league, but also on an international level. He is a great star and a great leader for this team,” Buss made clear about LeBron James. “It’s the same as Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant because we are in a salary-cap league, and they should probably be making double what they make. But we can only pay him the maximum.”
