Los Angeles Lakers Complete Coaching Staff

The Los Angeles Lakers have named Nate McMillan, Scott Brooks, Bob Beyer, Greg St. Jean, Lindsey Harding and Beau Levesque as assistant coaches on Head Coach JJ Redick’s staff. Additionally, the Lakers have added Michael Wexler as head video coordinator.

An 18-year NBA head coaching veteran, McMillan joins Redick’s staff after most recently serving as head coach of the Atlanta Hawks from 2021-23. He joined the Hawks prior to the 2020-21 season as an assistant before being appointed interim head coach after the All-Star break. Following a run to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals, McMillan was promoted to head coach. Prior to Atlanta, he served as head coach of the Indiana Pacers from 2016-20 following an assistant’s role with the organization from 2013-16. Additionally, McMillan served seven seasons as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers from 2005-12 and five campaigns leading the Seattle SuperSonics from 2000-05. He began his coaching career as an assistant with the SuperSonics in 1998. McMillan, who led his teams to 11 postseason appearances, owns a 760-668 (.532) head coaching record and currently stands 18th all-time on the NBA’s career victories list. On the international stage, McMillan served as an assistant coach for the United States men’s national team, earning Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2008. The North Carolina native joined the coaching ranks following a 12-year NBA career with Seattle.

Brooks, a 12-year NBA head coaching veteran with a 521-414 (.557) overall record, joins the Purple and Gold after serving the last three seasons as an assistant coach in Portland. Prior to joining the Trail Blazers, the California native spent five seasons as head coach of the Washington Wizards from 2016-21 and seven years at the helm for the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2008-15. Brooks was named the 2009-10 NBA Coach of the Year after guiding the Thunder to 50 wins after the team won just 22 games the previous season. Overall, Brooks led his teams to eight playoff berths, including a trip to the NBA Finals in 2012 and Western Conference Finals appearances in 2014 and 2011. He has four 50-win seasons to his credit, including a 60-22 mark with OKC during the 2012-13 season. Brooks began his coaching career as an assistant with Seattle (2007-08), Sacramento (2006-07) and Denver (2003-06). The former guard played 10 seasons in the NBA with Philadelphia, Minnesota, Houston, Dallas, New York and Cleveland. Brooks won an NBA championship in 1994 as a member of the Rockets.

Beyer joins the Lakers bench after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets. The 17-year NBA coaching veteran has also served on staffs for New Orleans (2020-21), Sacramento (2019-20), Oklahoma City (2018-19), Detroit (2014-18), Charlotte (2013-14), Golden State (2012-13), Orlando (2007-12) and Toronto (2003-04). In the collegiate ranks, Beyer served as head coach at Sienna College from 1994-97. He also spent time as an assistant at Dayton (2005-07), Texas Tech (2001-03) Northwestern (1997-2000), Wisconsin (1993-94), Sienna (1989-93), Albany (1985-89) and Alfred (1983-84). Beyer played three seasons at Alfred University before transitioning to an assistant’s role for the team as a senior.

St. Jean returns to the Lakers’ staff after previously serving as a player development coach from 2019-21, which included the team’s run to the 2020 NBA Championship. He spent last season as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns following a two-year stint (2021-23) in the same role with the Dallas Mavericks. Prior to joining the Lakers in 2019, St. Jean spent four seasons (2015-19) as an assistant coach at St. John’s University. The Bay Area native began his post-playing career in the video room with the Sacramento Kings, serving as an assistant player development coach (2014-15) and video coordinator (2013-14). St. Jean played collegiately at Wesleyan University.

Harding, who becomes the first woman assistant in Lakers team history, joins the Purple and Gold following one season as head coach for the Stockton Kings. The Houston product was named the 2023-24 NBA G League Coach of the Year after guiding her team to a 24-10 overall record and a conference finals berth. Prior to her tenure in Stockton, Harding served four seasons (2019-23) as an assistant and player development coach for the Sacramento Kings and one campaign (2018-19) as a player development coach and pro personnel scout for the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to coaching, Harding played 10 professional seasons in the WNBA with Minnesota, Washington, Atlanta, Las Vegas, New York and Phoenix, as well as internationally in Turkey, Lithuania and Russia. Collegiately, the former guard played for Duke University from 2002-07 where she won the Naismith College Player of the Year award as a senior and became the school’s first No. 1 overall WNBA draft selection. Harding currently serves as head coach of the Mexico women’s national team and formerly led the South Sudan women’s national team.

Levesque spent the previous four seasons as a player development coordinator for the LA Clippers. Prior to Los Angeles, the California native served two seasons from 2018-20 as an assistant video coordinator and player development/video assistant for the Brooklyn Nets. Levesque embarked on his coaching career in 2016 at St. John’s University where he spent two years as a graduate assistant. He played professionally in Spain for two seasons from 2014-16 after competing for Saint Mary’s College of California from 2009-14.

Wexler arrives in Los Angeles after serving as a coaching associate for the Phoenix Suns last season. Prior to joining the Suns’ staff, Wexler acted as head video coordinator for the Minnesota Lynx during the 2023 WNBA season. The Minnesota native previously served as a video associate for the Houston Rockets and assisted their head of player development during the 2022-23 campaign. He also spent time as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Pepperdine University, where he held the position of video coordinator in 2021-22. Wexler played for the Waves from 2018-21 before embarking on his coaching career.
