Having joined LIV Golf in July 2022, Phil Mickelson recently opened up about his experience so far. The six-time Major Champion joined HyFlyers GC two years ago.
In an interview with Jerry Foltz and Su-Ann Heng, Mickelson said he expected the initial years at LIV Golf to be challenging. He said (via LIV Golf):
“I knew the first two years were going to be rough and here we are, two years in now, and it’s totally different. We’re having a blast here. We’re having so much fun.” (23:11-23:22)
The LIV Golfers have faced suspensions from the PGA Tour and have lost out on the OWGR points, making it difficult for them to participate in Majors. In March, the PGA Tour announced that it hoped a merger could be agreed upon with LIV Golf. However, no agreement with the breakaway tour has been reached yet.
Phil Mickelson also talked about the future of his team HyFlyers GC. Mickelson is the captain of the team which includes Brendan Steele, Cameron Tringale, and Andy Ogletree. Mickelson was asked about his vision for the HyFlyers GC. He said (via LIV Golf):
“I don’t know this, but I believe in discussions that we’ve had and in our planning and so forth, that each team will ultimately have a home base, a home golf course. And it’s going to take some time, but we’re already looking into this, you know. We want to have world-class instruction and a world-class training facility where you can practice and play, with all the things that I’ve learned, so that your practice has a purpose.” (15:24-15:53)
HyFlyers GC hasn’t had a great 2024 season so far. The team is currently in the 12th position. Last year, it finished ninth.
