28 Years Later is an upcoming post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Danny Boyle, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alex Garland. Produced by Columbia Pictures in association with BFI, DNA Films and Decibel Films, it serves as a sequel to bothΒ 28 Days LaterΒ (2002) andΒ 28 Weeks LaterΒ (2007).
The plot of “28 Years Later” remains under wraps, but it mirrors the beginning of “28 Days Later” where Jim awakens from a coma, unaware of the worldβs drastic changes. In this new arc, Jim, having recently been released from prison, is naive about how the world has evolved since the outbreak began. This narrative not only pays homage to the original filmβs story but also offers a fresh start for Jimβs character. When Tom Rothman confirmed Cillian Murphy’s return, he mentioned that the actor’s comeback would be “surprising and significantly developed.”
It starsΒ Cillian MurphyΒ reprising his role fromΒ 28 Days Later, alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer.
28 Years LaterΒ is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 20, 2025, byΒ Sony Pictures Releasing.
