Phil Mickelson’s gambling history is well-documented. The golfer lost millions in the past from his self-admitted addiction, leading him to make a change.

That doesn’t mean the temptation is gone! Lefty was approached with a wager from a fan at the PGA Championship over the weekend which he rejected in hilarious fashion.

While making his way through the course at Valhalla Golf Club, Mickelson had an interaction with someone in attendance. The quick conversation ended with laughter after a fan tried to coax him into a $1,000 bet.

“Phil, $1k says, ‘No birdie, here,’” the fan shouted in the golfer’s direction as he walked towards his ball after a tee shot.

“I would, but I’m not a gambling man,” Mickelson slyly responded with a grin from ear to ear.

He might wish he would’ve accepted that wager after sinking his birdie putt a few shots later. Hindsight is always 20/20!

It’s not the first time Phil Mickelson’s been approached by a fan on the golf course looking to strike a friendly bet during competition. In that past, he’s even accepted a few of those gambles!

Of course, running up a $100M gambling debt is enough to make anyone rethink the practice.

Mickelson’s since kicked the habit, but he clearly still has some fun with that history of taking risks. Unfortunately for Lefty, the birdie was the high point of his 2024 PGA Championship.

After finishing his first day with a double bogey to move to +3, he wrapped up Round 2 with a +1 performance.

That combined +4 led to Phil Mickelson being cut as his weekend ended early in Louisville. He’ll now look ahead to his next LIV Golf event which is set to take place in Houston on June 7th.
