This upcoming American gothic horror film, directed and written by Robert Eggers, features Bill Skarsgård in the lead role of the iconic vampire. It serves as a modern retelling of the 1922 German Expressionist classic, itself a creative rendition of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” from 1897, and follows the 1979 film “Nosferatu the Vampyre” as its second remake.
The project kicked off in 2015 after Eggers debuted with “The Witch.” Initially intended as his next venture, Eggers instead chose to direct “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman,” postponing “Nosferatu.” Originally, Anya Taylor-Joy was set to star, but left due to other commitments. Bill Skarsgård and Lily-Rose Depp were eventually cast as the leads in September 2022, with Nicholas Hoult joining shortly after and the full cast being rounded out in early 2023. The majority of the filming took place in Prague from February to May 2023.
