Warner Bros. is returning to the Matrix universe with a fifth installment, but this time without Lana or Lily Wachowski at the helm. Instead, Drew Goddard, known for his work on “The Martian” and other notable films, will be writing, directing, and producing alongside Sarah Esberg. Lana Wachowski will serve as an executive producer.
Plot details are scarce, but it’s promised that the new film will expand the Matrix world while staying true to its roots. Goddard expressed his reverence for the original films and his excitement for the opportunity to contribute to the franchise.
“The Matrix” series, which began in 1999, has had a significant impact on cinema and inspired a devoted fanbase. Despite the disappointment of the most recent installment, “The Matrix Resurrections,” the studio is optimistic about the future of the franchise under Goddard’s direction.
