Welcome to Derry is an upcoming American horror television series developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. Serving as a prequel to It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019), the series explores the events preceding Stephen King’s 1986 novel It.
In March 2022, Variety reported that Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs were developing and executive producing a prequel television series for HBO Max titled Welcome to Derry. Set in the 1960s before the events of the film, it also delves into the origin story of Pennywise the Clown. The series received a production commitment in November 2022, with Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane hired as co-showrunners. By February 2023, the series received the green light, with Andy Muschietti set to direct multiple episodes, including the pilot, and Fuchs as the writer.
In April 2023, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, and James Remar joined the cast. Stephen Rider joined as a series regular, and Madeleine Stowe as a recurring guest. Principal photography commenced in Toronto, Hamilton, and Port Hope in May 2023 under the working title Fairview, initially expected to continue through December. Scenes were filmed at the Delta Secondary School. Production was briefly suspended in mid-July due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, resuming on January 22, 2024, and expected to conclude on June 28, 2024.
