Critical Clash: Messi searches for his first goal against Brazil in a World Cup qualifier as the hosts try to avert a crisis in Rio

Lionel Messi still has a long way to go in sports. Two of them can be reached on Tuesday, when Argentina plays Brazil in a South American World Cup qualifying game.

In World Cup qualifying games, Messi, who is 36 years old, has scored 31 goals for Argentina. However, none of those goals have come against Brazil, either at home or away. Five of his goals have come in friendly games against the enemy.

The football federation of Brazil said that all 69,000 tickets for the game at the Maracana Stadium have been bought. After losing to Colombia 2-1 in the last round, both teams will play. The home team lost 2-0 to Uruguay in the World Cup last round.

Many fans in Brazil are excited to see Messi play in what could be his last game in Rio de Janeiro for Argentina. On the same field, the star lost the 2014 World Cup final to Germany but won the 2021 Copa America final against the home team.

With 12 points from five games, Argentina is in first place in the South American qualifying group with 10 teams. With 10 points, Uruguay is in second place. South America has nine, and Venezuela has eight. With seven points, Brazil is in fifth place and will host the World Cup winners.

The United States, Mexico, and Canada will host the 2026 World Cup, which will have 48 teams. The top six teams from South America will go directly to the tournament. The seventh-place team can get into a playoff for teams from other continents.
