Mo Salah can apparently do everything as he tops stats that list him as the best creator in the Premier League this season. The Liverpool star continues improving.
This season has been off to a great start for Mo Salah. He is tied for second in the Premier League scoring race with Son Heung-min and is just one goal behind Erling Haaland.
However, that is not his only activity. The Egyptian is not only a top scorer, but also one of the most original players in the Premier League.
Certainly, the numbers back it up. Salah has nine more ‘big chances’ generated than any other player in the league this season, according to FotMob. To put things into perspective, last season’s final standings showed that a total of nine points was good for 23rd. It’s important to remember that Salah ‘only’ scored 15 goals all of last season.
But this season is where we see his true creative potential. The fact that Opta now has Salah as the Premier League’s anticipated assist leader is further evidence of this.
This metric evaluates the probability of a goal when a player shoots after receiving a pass from a teammate, from 1 (an absolute certainty) to 0.1 (an extremely low probability). Salah’s assists should have resulted in an expected 4.6 goals. That’s a number nobody else in the league can even come close to.
Salah is fifth on the list of real assists this season, but the other four have benefited much more from players finishing tough opportunities than Salah has. Liverpool’s best player has four, which means his club is making the most of their opportunities. However, the players ahead of him on the assist leaderboard all have at least two more than predicted.
Everything about Salah is outstanding, and that doesn’t even including the assist he provided to Dominik Szoboszlai in the derby thanks to a ball he made. Even when he’s not racking up stats for the Reds, he’s still doing much of the heavy lifting.
Liverpool’s no.11 is burning on all cylinders, then, with possibly the most astounding fact being that he’s creating above everyone else while still scoring nearly a goal per game. What a real stud.
