Erling Haaland has opened up on his secrets including sleep and diet at Manchester City.
Manchester City star Erling Haaland has explained why he tapes his mouth shut while he sleeps and eats cow hearts having opened up on his strict diet and regiment that helps keep him at the top of the sport. The 23-year-old has continued his fine form from last year into the current season, scoring six goals in his opening four Premier League games, having been preparing for matches in a unique way.
Speaking to KSI and Logan Paul on Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, the trio were discussing the importance of quality sleep as athletes. The YouTubers-turned-boxers spoke about how they use nasal ᵴtriƥs in order to help their breathing while asleep, though Haaland lifted the lid on how he goes one step further and tapes over his mouth.
“I think sleep is the most important thing in the world,” Haaland said. “To sleep good, simple kind of things like blue-blocking glasses, shutting out all the signals in the bedroom, I think is really important.”
Paul explained how he believes that nasal ᵴtriƥs are the best way to improve sleep: “I’m sure you know, nostril breathing is the way forward…” before Haaland replied: “You should try and tape your mouth then. I sleep with it. Doing a lot of things is not good but doing small things every single day for a longer period really pays off.”
The conversation soon switched to diet as Haaland explained what fuels his 6ft4 body to help him fend off some of the strongest defenders in the world. The Norwegian revealed he eats cow heart and liver, as well as a drink made of milk, kale and spinach as he showed off the cow heart and liver that he received from his butcher.
In his documentary, Haaland: The Big Decision, he said: “You (other people) don’t eat this, but I am concerned with taking care of my body. I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important.”
He eats his dad’s homemade lasagne before every home game, wolfs down cow’s heart and liver and drinks milk laced with kale, which he calls “my magic potion”, to maintain a 6,000-calorie-a-day diet.
Haaland also only drinks water that comes through a complicated filter system and begins each day the same way as part of a meticulous routine to keep him at the top.
“The first thing I do in the morning is to get some sunlight in my eyes — it is good for circadian rhythm,” he said. “I have also started to filtrate my water a bit. I think it can have great benefits for my body.”
