The Rock is a huge guy. He stands around 6′5″ and must’ve weighed a legit 250–260lbs during his first WWE run. He also is/was a legitimately talented athletic performer. He came quite close to a career as a footballer before he joined WWE so he has experience at training for an actual competitive sport and maintaining a certain level of stamina. He is more jacked than ever right now but I suppose his “prime” would be during his first WWE run when he was in his mid 20’s to early 30’s. He may look more impressive these days in terms of muscular size and vascularity (which would have very little bearing when it came to actual fighting) but back then he was wrestling a couple of times a week, he’d have had much better stamina than he would today and would be in his athletic prime. He may be able to bench press more today but I think back then he’d likely have more functional strength than he does these days too (he’s also much older now). So, taking all of that into account… Tyson would butcher The Rock.
The Rock was a great professional wrestler and he was a big strong athletically gifted guy but, to quote the Great One himself, it doesn’t matter how strong and athletic The Rock is because Mike Tyson was a trained 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er. Tyson in his prime was a force of nature and his nickname of “baddest man on the planet” was likely 100% accurate. He was a phenom in the ring. He had crazy knockout power in each hand, and he also had blistering hand speed. People tend to remember Tyson for his ferociously aggressive style and his knockout power but he also possessed incredible technical s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s which were honed over thousands of hours of practice. He also had wonderful evasive s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s and defence.
If the Tyson from ’88 met The Rock from ’98 I think it would be over quickly. Tyson would likely just swarm Dwayne and batter him with a barrage of punishing power shots to the body and head and The Rock would either be knocked out or crumple to the ground in a bloody heap. It’s hard to envision it going any other way. The Rock is a huge guy but has no striking s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, he would not have the speed or the technique to land a punch on Mike, and even if by some miracle he did I think his lack of striking knowledge would mean that the blow wouldn’t be delivered as effectively as it should be and Tyson, due to his boxing training, would be well conditioned to absorb such a blow.
The Rock’s best option for victory would be to take the fight to the ground but I simply don’t see that happening. The Rock possesses no known grappling s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, his football training would probably be the closest he’s come to performing a legitimate take down on someone, so I don’t think he’d have the s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 and technique to shoot on Mike and take him down. Even if Rock got in close I think Mike’s explosive speed and power would allow him to throw Rock off or simply pound him with punches as The Rock attempted to get a hold of Mike.
So I think the most likely scenario would be Tyson backing up The Rock and knocking him out with a powerful combo of punches before The Rock even had time to formulate a plan of attack.
This is all just my opinion and how I’d envision the hypothetical fight going. Dwayne Johnson is an incredibly humble guy and I don’t think even he himself would be delusional enough to think that he would’ve stood a chance against Iron Mike. I have huge respect for both guys and I have long followed both guys through their respective careers… But with all due respect to The Rock, I am certain that if he fought Mike Tyson then The Rock would be smashed into little tiny pebbles.
