Axel Disasi Reveals Secrets Behind Remarkable Career Feat Following Sealing of Chelsea Transfer
After losing Wesley Fofana to a knee injury, Chelsea signed France international Axel Disasi from Monaco in a £38.5 million transfer with a six-year contract.
Axel Disasi claims to have never missed a professional football match due to injury, thanks in part to his passion for playing the piano.
Disasi made the outrageous remark after completing his £38.5 million transfer to Chelsea on Friday morning. The Blues have inked a six-year contract with the France international, who will give defensive cover after Wesley Fofana sustained a catastrophic knee injury.
Chelsea have completed the signing of defender Axel Disasi from Monaco for £40million
The center-back was a member of his country’s squad that reached the World Cup final in Qatar, losing on penalties to Argentina, and appeared in all 38 of Monaco’s Ligue 1 games last season. His hard work has resulted in 241 club outings by the age of 25.
Disasi is always available for selection, although he isn’t always chosen. That could be the case at Stamford Bridge, where he will compete for a spot in Chelsea’s defense with Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Marc Cucurella, and Levi Colwill.
Disasi is said to have never suffered a traditional football injury during his professional career. He was only unavailable for selection once, at the start of 2022, when he suffered coronavirus, forcing him to miss two Monaco games.
Disasi spoke of his desire to win trophies after signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side
This astounding number was shared by Disasi when he told Chelsea’s website that relaxation helps him retain his fitness. “I started playing the piano when I was at Reims, my club before Monaco, when I was going through a difficult period,” he recalled.
“It helped me a lot because it allowed me to think of other things. I like the sound. It’s peaceful and relaxing. I have taught myself, bit by bit. I took a small piano and started watching tutorials on YouTube. Even if there are periods during which I don’t practice too much, I have learned some pieces and that allows me to think of something else.
“I know it’s sometimes important to clear your head of football, to be able to decompress. To be my best on the pitch I know I need to separate my thoughts… but I am also someone who takes great pleasure in being on the pitch, and with the other players.
“I want to bring my positive energy to this group, to be happy, to have a laugh with my team-mates. I like to have fun, to joke. It’s important because it’s a young group who are very close and laugh together. I like that a lot.”
Manchester United and Newcastle were also interested in signing Disasi from Monaco
Due to Fofana’s injury, Disasi could be thrust into Chelsea’s starting lineup. Mauricio Pochettino, the new Blues manager, prefers to play with a back four and used it effectively throughout preseason, winning the Premier League Summer Series.
It’s uncertain when Fofana will return to action after undergoing anterior cruciate ligament replacement surgery, but he could miss the entire new season. His injury is thought to have played a significant influence in Chelsea’s decision to sign Disasi.
“Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage,” said Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. “He is ready to take the next step in his career.”
