Rajo Devi Lohan became the world’s oldest first-time mother, despite the criticism she faced claiming that she was putting her life at risk and condemning her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 to the agony of losing parents at a young age.
After a controversial in vitro fertilization treatment at age 70, she finally had a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 girl and nearly died from 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 complications. But years later, the 78-year-old said having her daughter, Naveen, has made her stronger and helped her live longer.

After her ill health, the frail mother believes her desire to see her little girl marry gives her the strength to fight and live to witness the special day. Rajo, who lives in the remote village of Hissar, India, with Naveen, husband Ballo, and his second wife Umi, said, “The only reason I am still alive despite my illness is Naveen.”
“She is a gift that God has given me, and, until I have married her off, I cannot afford to die. I will marry her off when she turns 15, but until then I simply cannot die.”
Many suggested that this pregnancy was detrimental to the mother’s health. And their doubts seemed justified when Rajo fell seriously ill, nearly dying from postpartum complications related to her IVF treatment.
But Rajo has even outlived her doctor, who accompanied her throughout the process, and she attributes it all to having something to live for: her daughter.

Rajo said, “When Naveen was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧, the doctor had asked me to take absolute bed rest, but I didn’t listen to him and that’s why my health got so bad. I am not used to rest and that is why I could not avoid working even after she was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧. For me, work is what I’ve done all my life.”
However, all her health problems seemed to have disappeared now. “I feel much better now. The doctor took very good care of me, but, unfortunately, he has since passed away. He spent a lot of money on my medical expenses to help me have my daughter. I really appreciate everything he did.”

Rajo confesses that she had always desired to be a mom, and despite what doctors and others said, she was willing to make it happen. “When I looked around and saw 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, my heart was saddened that I could not have one; I desperately wanted to have a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 of my own,” she said sincerely.
The whole village joined in the joy of seeing her become a mother. The villagers were very happy and everyone from the village came to see her.

Even though the mother has already reached old age, she does not worry about Naveen’s future. “She doesn’t need to worry about her future — she has her other mother, Umi, her uncles, relatives, and her father to take care of her,” she said.
“As Naveen is my only daughter, she will inherit all my property, which includes 52,000 square meters of land. Her future will be secured.”
