Tiger Woods, 49, sends fans into meltdown as he makes shock return to golf for the first time since surgery

Tiger Woods is back on the links for the first time since his surgery in March on a ruptured Achilles tendon, as he was seen taking swings on the range at Liberty National, sending his fans into meltdown.

The living legend has had a multitude of injuries over the years that has prevented him from playing on the PGA Tour, including spinal fusion last year.

Woods, 49, is taking swings from the course which overlooks the Hudson River and Statue of Liberty during the NEXUS Cup, an amateur match play event which he hosts.

His swing in the video did not show any discomfort from his surgery, with him using a shorter-range club to hit balls.

On Monday, Woods was pictured alongside high-ranking Democrat and Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro as he cut the ribbon of his new ‘learning lab’ at a golf center in Philadelphia.

During the appearance, Woods’ future as a player was still in doubt as his focus was solely on helping the next generation of golfers with his facility. Now, his fans are ready for another comeback.

A collection of social-media messages about Tiger Woods’ shock return to the golf course

‘Omg omg,’ one golf fans said on social media.

‘That is super-fast recovery. Not surprised with this guy’s drive and will. We shall see!’ a second Tiger fanatic added.

‘Tiger looks great!!’ a third stated.

The learning lab has been created by Woods’ nonprofit TGR Foundation. It will offer local students – from first through 12th grade – access to educational tools covering subjects such as science, technology and engineering.

Woods taking swings from the Jersey City, New Jersey course is the first sign that the 15-time major winner could play in a tournament again in early 2026.

Woods has not played in an official event since the 20204 Open Championship at Royal Troon last July, where he missed the cut.

Ideally, Woods would return to the links for the 2026 Masters, which takes place during the second weekend of April and will be 13 months removed from his Achilles surgery.

The 49-year-old is currently ranked No 1,839 in the world, having played just 11 events since his February 2021 car crash, but would earn a spot at Augusta, if interested, as a previous five-time Green Jacket winner.
