Lewis Hamilton crashes OUT of the Dutch Grand Prix weeks after admitting he should be SACKED from £60m-a-year Ferrari deal

Lewis Hamilton has crashed out in the Dutch Grand Prix on the exit of the third corner.

During lap 23 of the race at Circuit Zandvoort the Ferrari star sent his left front into the barrier as he exited the corner.

A safety car was called as the seven-time world champion’s race came to a disastrous end in the Netherlands despite getting off to a positive start.

The afternoon only went from bad to worse for Ferrari as Charles Leclerc later crashed out at the very same corner that brought an end to Hamilton’s race.

The Monegasque driver span out after a dramatic coming together with Kimi Antonelli with Ferrari suffering double DNFs for the second time this season.

Hamilton’s incident marks the latest setback on the track for the Briton since he completed a high-profile switch to the Scuderia last year.

Hamilton’s Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc was also forced to retire after a collision at the very same corner

After a particularly disappointing showing during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this month Hamilton sensationally suggested that he needed to be replaced and called his performance ‘useless’.

However, the sport’s summer break appeared to have invigorated the former Mercedes man.

‘[In the break] I’ve just been with family – with my niece and nephew, with Roscoe, and it’s been great,’ Hamilton told the Formula One website ahead of Sunday’s return.

‘I’ve enjoyed being away and to unplug, then just bring myself back to my core. That’s how I’ve always done it.

‘Lots of meditation, finding gratitude in every single day and just realigning yourself to your core beliefs. They’ve always been there, and I will use those moving forwards.’

He added: ‘I think right now, it’s just about calming some things down and focusing on getting back to enjoying my job. I love this sport, I always have.

‘That’s why I got into it, and I’m going to drown out all of the noise and just get back to… this is a great restart moment for us.’
