Since 2020, Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet have been spotted holding hands in the F1 paddock, but their relationship has not been without controversy. The biggest one is Daniil Kvyat. One of the biggest controversies was Kelly’s previous relationship with Daniil Kvyat, a tale as old as time in the F1 paddock. Kvyat not only lost his Red Bull seat to Verstappen but also his girlfriend to the F1 prodigy.
Kelly had been romantically involved with F1 driver Daniil Kvyat for two years, from 2017 to 2019, prior to her relationship with Max. Their time together resulted in the 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 of their daughter, Penelope, who was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in July of that same year.
Despite this, Kelly and Max’s relationship blossomed and they announced it to the world via an Instagram post on New Year’s Day 2021. Unfortunately, Kvyat was not happy about the news and had some choice words for Verstappen.
Max Verstappen accused of stealing Kelly Piquet
Kelly’s Instagram post announcing her relationship with Max was full of love and positivity. She captioned the picture of the two jolly love birds: “Love is what makes the world go round.”
However, Daniil Kvyat wasn’t happy looking at his phone. Seeing the mother of his 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 move on so quickly with someone new, especially someone who had taken his place in F1 left him infuriated.
Kvyat and Verstappen had been good friends before becoming on-track rivals, but all ties were now severed. Licking his wounds, Kvyat found solace in his friends. Sources at Business F1 Magazine had quoted the driver feeling Verstappen had “stolen his partner.”
Understandably heartbroken, the circumstances of how Verstappen and Piquet met only added fuel to Kvyat’s emotions.
How Kelly Piquet first met Verstappen while with Daniil Kvyat
Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet actually first met years before they began their romantic relationship. Despite the nine-year age gap between them, their paths had crossed prior to their love story taking off.
Remember, Piquet started dating Kvyat in 2017. However, she shared a magical night with Verstappen the year before. “Max was friends with my brother Nelson and we all went out for dinner in Monaco one night. That was six years ago, in 2016.”
However, it was the difference in their age that held her back. “But there was already something magical that evening. Our connection started then. And I’ll leave it at that for now.”
Thus, Kvyat’s suspicions were confirmed long before the story of Piquet and Verstappen’s love story was known. Now, Verstappen and Piquet share a picture-perfect relationship, with the young driver even sharing a beautiful relationship with Kelly’s daughter. As the couple looks to expand their small family, it looks like their bond is unbreakable, no matter the cost.
