Bryson DeChambeau produced a “ridiculous” effort when attempting the famous ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing, according to actor Adam Sandler.
Almost 30 years after the original film was released, Sandler has starred in a sequel to the fan favorite ‘Happy Gilmore’. ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ was released at the end of last month, with cameos aplenty from the likes of DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Keegan Bradley, Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth, amongst others.
Without veering into spoiler territory, Scheffler’s appearance is an interesting one, which Mirror U.S. Sport readers can learn about here. Recently, Sandler played a round of golf with DeChambeau, which the latter posted on his YouTube channel.
“My name is Bryson DeChambeau [and] ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved to golf,” said DeChambeau in the introduction to the video.
“I used to sit down five times a week and watch this little movie called ‘Happy Gilmore.’ Now I get to play a round of golf with mr Happy Gilmore himself, Adam Sandler.”
During the video, which was over an hour long, DeChambeau was filmed performing the famous ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing, which sees the player in question take a running start at the ball before delivering a powerful, hockey-like swing.
DeChambeau, known for his big swing, crushed his effort in front of Sandler, who was left impressed. However, in a clip posted to social media, it almost appeared as if DeChambeau was more impressed with Sandler’s swing than his.
Recently, Sandler spoke to writer Tim Herlihy, who helped him write both ‘Happy Gilmore’ and ‘Happy Gilmore 2’. And while DeChambeau’s reaction to Sandler’s swing was an impressed one, the latter admitted he could not believe how easy the two-time major winner made it look.

Recalling the first time he and Herlihy put the swing together, Sandler said, via AP Entertainment: “The first thing I remember when we were putting it together, Herlihy is like, “I called my dad and asked him if it was legal, I was like ‘Can you take, can you [swing a club like that]’, and he’s like ‘Yeah, I don’t see why not. Yeah, it makes sense.’
“I said so like golfers aren’t going to say ‘No way, that’s breaking [the rules]’, and he’s like ‘No, no, it seems like a legal swing. There’s nothing illegal about it’, right Herlihy?
“No, you can do it if you want,” replied Herlihy.
“You can do it,” said Sandler, adding: “It just, it doesn’t make sense. But then there’s some people that look at it and go yeah, that does help you swing harder. It gives you more momentum, you turn your hips faster, I don’t know, maybe it’s a good thing.

Herlihy added: “I feel like when these golfer’s try to do it, like when these pro’s, like they’re five per cent thinking ‘Maybe this will work.'”
And that then prompted Sandler to explain how DeChambeau did when performing the swing. “I played with Bryson [DeChambeau] like a week ago when he did it and it was ridiculous,” said Sandler.
“He literally blasted it like 360, and just kept walking like it didn’t happen. I was like ‘Did he just f—— smash the ‘Happy Gilmore’ and not even think about it?’ It was cool man.”
