The future just got a serious upgrade. Nearly two decades after the original I, Robot hit theaters, Will Smith returns in the newly released teaser trailer for I, Robot 2 — and this time, he’s not alone. Tech mogul Elon Musk makes a surprise appearance in what fans are calling the most ambitious sci-fi sequel of the decade.

Set in the year 2062, I, Robot 2 picks up 30 years after the events of the first film. Detective Del Spooner (Smith), now a retired legend, is pulled back into the world of artificial intelligence when a new breed of self-aware robots begins to surface — not through rogue programming, but by design.
The teaser opens with a chilling voiceover from Smith: “We built them to serve. But someone built them… to lead.”
What follows is a montage of sleek, hyper-advanced robots blending into human society, eerily calm in expression. Then, in a flash of neon-lit metal corridors, Elon Musk appears — playing himself — as the head of Neural Core, a shadowy tech organization rumored to be merging human consciousness with machine intelligence.
Musk’s line in the teaser: “You feared the robots. What if I told you… you’ve become one?”
Directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium), the film promises a darker, more philosophical take on AI, merging dystopian action with modern ethical dilemmas. The teaser closes with a shot of Spooner facing off with a robot clone of himself — eyes glowing faint blue, whispering: “I am your evolution.”
I, Robot 2 is scheduled for global release on July 10, 2026, with IMAX and streaming premieres on Prime Video.
