The Awakening (2025) – Official Trailer Unveils Jane Levy in a Mind-Bending Horror Mystery

May 2025 – Some secrets should stay buried.

Lionsgate has released the chilling official trailer for The Awakening (2025), a gripping horror-mystery starring Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) in a story that blurs the line between psychological trauma and supernatural terror. Directed by Osgood Perkins (Gretel & Hansel), the film promises a haunting descent into memory, guilt, and the ghosts that refuse to be forgotten.

Plot Summary

Levy plays Emma Holloway, a trauma psychologist who returns to her abandoned 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood home in the English countryside after receiving news of her mother’s mysterious death. But as she begins to uncover forgotten rooms and old journals, Emma starts to experience horrifying visions — of her past, and something older… something waiting.

The village locals whisper about a spirit known only as The Awakened, said to inhabit those who deny their own pain. As Emma’s dreams merge with reality, she must confront not only her family’s legacy, but the possibility that she has been haunted since 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡.

Trailer Highlights:

  • Jane Levy entering a decaying manor as whispers echo through the walls.

  • Flickering candles lighting themselves in reverse.

  • A scene where Emma discovers old 8mm film reels labeled “DO NOT WATCH”, revealing forgotten family rituals.

  • A shadowy, faceless figure seen behind her in every mirror.

  • The final frame: Emma levitating in a pitch-black hallway, eyes glowing white as her own voice says: “I remember now.”

Tone and Visual Style

The Awakening draws inspiration from The Others, The Witch, and Hereditary. The trailer is soaked in fog, candlelight, and creeping dread. Cinematographer Jarin Blaschke (The Lighthouse) brings a surreal, dreamlike quality to every frame, and the score by Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow builds from eerie stillness to symphonic terror.
