Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is reportedly open to a summer move to Liverpool, according to BBC journalist Sami Mokbel. The Swedish forward has emerged as a potential target for the Premier League champions as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of the 2025/26 season.

While Liverpool have shown serious interest in Isak, luring him away from St James’ Park will be far from easy. The 24-year-old is under contract until 2028, and Newcastle have no intention of parting with their star striker — especially with Champions League qualification within reach. The Magpies currently sit third in the table with two games remaining.

According to Mokbel, the chances of Isak leaving Newcastle for another Premier League club this summer remain “extremely slim.” The Tyneside club are expected to demand a “massive” fee — reportedly no less than £120 million — for the striker many consider one of the best in the world.

“There is no release clause in Isak’s contract,” Mokbel stated. “And Newcastle will only consider letting him go if a huge offer arrives — and even that may not be enough unless the player pushes for a move.”

Isak has been instrumental in Newcastle’s success this season, and the club’s hopes of keeping him could be significantly boosted if they secure a top-four finish and offer him Champions League football once again. However, with just three years left on his contract, the situation may shift by next summer if an extension isn’t agreed.

For Liverpool, the addition of Isak would be a massive statement. The Reds, fresh off their Premier League title under new manager Arne Slot, are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window as they aim to defend their crown.

Liverpool are also closing in on another major signing. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the club is in advanced negotiations with Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen. “Liverpool are ready to activate the €35 million release clause,” Romano confirmed. “Personal terms are being discussed and progressing positively.”

Frimpong is seen as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

If Liverpool were to pull off both signings — adding Isak to lead the line and Frimpong to reinforce the back — they would be well-equipped to challenge for both domestic and European glory once again.
