His character served as a satirical lens on societal prejudices, making Smith a familiar face in the UK entertainment industry.

Rudolph Walker, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in 1939, portrayed Bill Reynolds, Eddie’s educated Jamaican neighbor. Renowned for his wit and calm demeanor in the face of Eddie’s bigotry, Walker’s career flourished post-series with roles in major productions like “EastEnders.” As of 2025, he remains active at 85, advocating for diversity in media.

Harry Littlewood, who played the workplace foreman, passed away in 2003 at the age of 82. Paul Luty, known for his role as Nobby Garside, died in 1985 at 52, while Tommy Godfrey, who added comic relief as Arthur, also passed away in the ’80s at 68.
