Brett Gardner, the former New York Yankees outfielder, is mourning the tragic loss of his 14-year-old son, Miller, who passed away on March 21. The heartbreaking announcement was made by the Gardner family through a statement released by the Yankees on Sunday.

Miller fell ill during a family vacation, and while several family members experienced similar health issues, he ultimately succumbed to his condition, passing away peacefully in his sleep. In their statement, Brett and his wife, Jessica, expressed their devastation, stating, “We have so many questions and so few answers at this point.” They described Miller as a “beloved son and brother,” reflecting on his infectious smile and passion for life, which included interests in football, baseball, golf, hunting, and fishing.

The Gardners expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends, family, and the wider community as they navigate this unimaginable loss. “We are confident our faith, family, and friends will help us during this difficult time,” they said. The Yankees organization also shared their condolences, emphasizing the deep sense of grief felt within the team. “Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss,” the statement read.

Brett Gardner, who spent 14 seasons with the Yankees and played his final game in 2021, has dedicated the time since to his family in South Carolina. The Yankees acknowledged the deep-rooted connection the Gardner family has with the organization, highlighting how both Brett and Jessica grew up within its community. They mourned Miller, who was known for his spark, outgoing personality, and warm nature, and offered their unconditional support to the grieving family while respecting their need for privacy during this challenging time.

As the community rallies around the Gardners, they are reminded of the fragility of life and the important bonds that unite them in this time of sorrow.
