Max Verstappen has declared that he will ‘never go to England again’ following his father’s shocking comments about the recent backlash at an F1 event.
The controversy erupted during the F1 75 event held last Tuesday at the O2 Arena in London, where teams revealed their liveries for the upcoming season. While the event was met with enthusiasm from most fans, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and team principal Christian Horner faced loud boos from the crowd.
Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, was quick to respond to the unexpected reaction. Speaking to RaceXpress from his home in Belgium, Jos expressed his disappointment: “I thought it was a reasonable set-up, but what happened with Red Bull Racing was shameful. That Christian Horner was booed like that, and Max was booed too. You do it for Formula 1, to promote the sport, and then you’re met with that reaction from the public. It’s really a disappointment.”
In light of the incident, Max Verstappen has made a bold statement about his future participation in F1 events in the UK. According to Jos, Max has no interest in returning to similar events in England, saying, “No, Max has no appetite for that, to be booed like that in front of 25,000 people. He also says: ‘If this is in England next year, they definitely won’t see me.'”
Jos supported his son’s stance, adding, “You are there to promote the sport and showcase the new color schemes of the cars, but if the crowd reacts like this, what’s the point of being there? They need to take a hard look at this, because that’s not part of the sport.”
The fallout from the F1 75 event has sparked debate among fans and insiders, with many now wondering whether Max Verstappen will follow through on his vow to avoid future appearances in the UK.
