Liverpool Fans Frustrated with Darwin Nunez’s Lackluster Performances

Liverpool fans are growing increasingly impatient with forward Darwin Nunez, whose poor form continues to spark criticism after a series of missed chances in the Champions League.

Nunez failed to make an impact once again as Liverpool narrowly defeated Girona 1-0, thanks to Mohamed Salah’s penalty. The Uruguayan striker had several one-on-one opportunities but was unable to beat Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. This marked the fifth consecutive game in which Nunez has failed to score.

Fans took to social media platform X to express their frustration with Nunez’s performance during the match.

  • User @DistanceCovered remarked, “I feel like I’ve aged a decade since Liverpool signed Nunez. Supporting him is bad for your health.”
  • @Gbemiga__A added, “Haven’t heard anyone call him ‘Darwizzy’ in a while. He’s truly lost the fans’ trust.”
  • Another fan, @Kashe1dz, analyzed, “Tactical experts say we should keep Nunez because of his positioning, but Usain Bolt did the same in the A-League. Let’s not ignore the glaring flaws.”
  • @LFC_Hamy humorously quipped, “Nunez makes me feel like ‘Spain’ without the ‘S.’”
  • @EfranAlexander was more direct: “Darwin Nunez just had two back-to-back performances against Newcastle and Girona as poor as Lambert, Borini, Balotelli, Carroll, or Ngog at their worst. He needs a long spell on the bench. Give others a chance. Let’s see some fairness in team selection.”

The pressure is mounting on Nunez, who has managed just three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season. Many are questioning whether the Uruguayan’s style truly fits Liverpool’s tactical setup. His inefficiency in front of goal has raised doubts about his long-term future at the club, with speculation growing that Liverpool could consider offloading him at the end of the season.

Adding to the scrutiny, only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has missed more big chances (seven) than Nunez (four) in this season’s Champions League. If Nunez does not improve soon, the murmurs of discontent among Liverpool fans could turn into louder calls for change.
