Red Bull Technical Advisor Helmut Marko has delivered some unsettling news for the team despite Max Verstappen‘s championship win. Verstappen finished P5 at the Las Vegas GP but now leads by 64 points, which makes him the champion.
Helmut Marko has claimed that the employees of the Milton-Keynes-based team will not be getting bonuses after the season. Employees are known to receive incentives if they win the constructors’ championship. With Red Bull standing third in the title race, chances look slim for the squad this year.
Marko has praised Max Verstappen for his stupendous run this season but appeared disappointed towards Sergio Perez. Perez, who has not won a single race this season, trails the Dutchman by over 200 points in the championship.
We have to have two drivers who finish in the points. Max is more than 200 points ahead of Sergio. For now, the main thing was to win the championship for Max, but for our employees, it is a disappointment because they will not receive their bonuses, as they depend on our position in the constructors’ championship.
Helmut Marko told DAZN.
Sergio Perez‘ dismal efforts have cost the team heavily in the constructors’ championship against Ferrari and McLaren. As the celebratios now go underway for Verstappen, a concern looms for the Mexican regarding his future.
