Drivers RAGE Against FIA’s ‘Unfair’ Penalties – Is the FIA Out of Control?
The Formula 1 grid is fuming as tensions between drivers and the FIA reach a boiling point over what many are calling inconsistent and unfair penalty decisions. The most recent race weekend saw a flurry of controversial calls from race stewards, sparking outrage among drivers who feel the sport’s governing body is losing control of its own rulebook.
From track limits violations to collisions and pit lane infractions, drivers have voiced their frustration about a lack of clarity and consistency in the application of penalties. A particularly contentious moment came during a heated mid-field battle, where one driver received a time penalty for what many deemed a “racing incident,” while others escaped similar situations without consequence.
Speaking out, Lewis Hamilton expressed his exasperation: “We’re racing at the highest level, and the FIA needs to be clear about the rules. Right now, it feels like they’re making it up as they go along.”
Max Verstappen echoed the sentiment, stating: “It’s frustrating when the penalties are so inconsistent. One weekend it’s okay, the next weekend it’s not. As drivers, we need to know where we stand.”
Even team principals have joined the criticism. One remarked: “These decisions are costing teams millions and jeopardizing the integrity of the championship. It’s unacceptable.”
The backlash has also spilled over to fans, who are taking to social media to share their displeasure. Many are calling for an overhaul of the stewarding system, suggesting the introduction of permanent stewards rather than rotating panels to ensure consistent rulings across all races.
The FIA, however, has defended its actions, with a spokesperson stating: “Our decisions are based on the regulations, and while not everyone will agree, our priority is fairness and safety.”
But as the criticism mounts, the question remains: is the FIA out of touch with the drivers and teams? With emotions running high and the championship on the line, this growing discontent threatens to overshadow the sport’s thrilling on-track battles.
The debate over penalties has now become a defining storyline of the season — one that the FIA cannot afford to ignore. Will the governing body address these concerns, or are we heading for an even bigger fallout?
