The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a disappointing 7-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Monday night at PPG Paints Arena. The Stars scored an incredible six goals in 12 shots in the opening period.

For the first time in their franchise history, the Penguins allowed six goals in the first period of a home game.

Captain Sidney Crosby was understandably not pleased with the team’s performance.

“There’s not much to say when it’s 6-0,” Crosby said. “You just got to play through it. You can’t quit. You can’t give up. We put ourselves in that position. We’ve got to keep playing and see what happens,” Sidney Crosby told reporters after the game.

“Besides that, you can’t change the period. It happened, and you got to find ways to play through it.”

Crosby acknowledged that the Penguins got themselves into trouble by trying to play catch up against a strong offensive team like Dallas.

“We got behind, and started chasing it. To do that against a dangerous team, it can get ugly, and that’s what happened,” Sidney Crosby added.

Miro Heiskanen (two), Mason Marchment, Wyatt Johnson, Matt Duchene, Tyler Seguin and Logan Stankoven scored for the Stars. Goaltender Jake Oettinger made 20 saves.

Anthony Beauvillier scored for the Penguins. Joel Blomqvist was replaced after allowing three goals on eight shots. Backup goalie Alex Nedeljkovic allowed four goals on 32 shots.

Just over two minutes into the first period, Matt Duchene scored the opening goal for Dallas. Logan Stankoven and Mason Marchment added goals later in the frame to give the Stars a commanding 3-0 lead.

The situation worsened for Pittsburgh during the first period when Miro Heiskanen scored two goals within a minute to push Dallas ahead 5-0. Tyler Seguin also netted a power play goal to extend the Stars’ lead to 6-0 by the end of the first period.

The Penguins managed to score in the second period thanks to Anthony Beauvillier’s goal; however, it wasn’t enough as they fell short after Wyatt Johnston scored another powerplay goal in the third period to make it 7-1.
